TCCI® Investigator Tao Hu Wins Outstanding Contribution Award

On May 25, Tao Hu, Deputy Director and Researcher at Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Investigator at the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, won an Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Scientists in Shanghai.

Hu has been long been devoted to researching on new micro nano sensor technology and he has made innovative accomplishments in interdisciplinary fields including brain-machine interface (BCI), AI sensor chip, and bioelectronics. He has published more than 70 articles in SCI journals including Science and Nature and has over 20 patent applications.

 At the inauguration ceremony of TCCI® Frontier Lab for Brain Science in October 2020, Tao Hu and his team demonstrated the first flexible electrode for BCIs in China which has attracted much attention. Financially supported by TCCI® and other institutes, the project innovatively applied fibroin, a traditional Chinese material, in manufacturing the electrodes. Experiments on animals have proven that its key components are superior to Neuralink in terms of trauma caused by implantation and long-term in vivo safety.
