Beyond the Laboratory: Developing Neurotechnology Solutions for Mass Populations

A TCCI Satellite Meeting at SfN Neuroscience 2023
Westin DC Downtown Hotel (Anacostia Ballroom, Salon D), 999 9th St Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
Nov 10: 6:30-10pm

Interactions with the brain have long been shown to reveal useful information about a person’s brain and mind. In the laboratory or the clinic, they have been used in many areas, including sleep science and BCI-controlled robotic limbs. However, practical solutions have been scarce due to the complexity of instruments used, the advanced skill level required to operate them, and their high costs. Thus, instead of helping tens of millions, they are instead helping hundreds or thousands.

This meeting will convene a group of globally respected experts who have a strong overview of academic and industry aspects of neurotechnologies. During this satellite meeting at SfN’s Neuroscience 2023, presenters will share their views on how the historical context of neurotechnologies contributed to its current state, the scale of opportunity linked to developing neurotechnology solutions for mass populations, the scientific, regulatory and financial challenges scientists face when developing solutions that are more cost-effective and less complex, and also practical ways each of them are making progress in this regard.

Our hope is that this event will contribute to the definition of the current and future state of an important new class of technologies that will have a major impact on people’s lives in the 21st century.

This event will be hosted by Dr. Gerwin Schalk, Director of the Chen Frontier Lab for Applied Neurotechnology.
